Understanding the Heart: The Engine of Life
The heart is a vital organ that works tirelessly to keep us alive. This muscular organ, about the size of a fist, pumps blood throughout the body, delivering oxygen and nutrients while removing carbon dioxide and waste. It’s located slightly to the left of the chest, protected by the ribcage.
The heart has four chambers: two atria (upper chambers) and two ventricles (lower chambers), which work in perfect sync to maintain circulation. The right side of the heart pumps blood to the lungs for oxygenation, while the left side pumps oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body.
Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and avoiding smoking are essential for maintaining a healthy heart. Keeping your heart strong ensures a better quality of life and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
