Understanding the Hip Joint: Anatomy and Key Ligaments
The hip joint is a ball-and-socket joint, where the femur (thigh bone) fits into the pelvic socket (acetabulum), allowing smooth movement and stability.
Main Ligaments:
🔹 Anterior (Front):
- Pubofemoral Ligament – Prevents excessive hip extension & abduction.
- Iliofemoral Ligament – The strongest ligament, supports upright posture.
🔹 Posterior (Back):
- Ischiofemoral Ligament – Prevents excessive inward rotation of the hip.
✔ These ligaments provide stability while allowing movement!
